International Day of Peace: Nigeria and the World Must Choose Peace Beyond Politics By Comrade Sanni Inuwa Baba, Founder – CSI Peace Foundation

Today, as the world observes the International Day of Peace, we are reminded that peace is not just the absence of war, but the triumph of conscience over conflict. True peace is not about politics or positions — it is about humanity, about doing what is right, about protecting life, dignity, and hope. At the Comrade Sanni Inuwa (CSI) Peace Foundation, we stand firm in our conviction that peace is the foundation upon which all societies must be built.

Nigeria’s Unique Diversity

Nigeria is blessed with extraordinary diversity. With over 250 ethnic groups, countless languages, and rich traditions, our cultural mosaic is one of the greatest in the world. From the Hausa-Fulani in the North, to the Yoruba in the West, the Igbo in the East, and the minority groups of the Middle Belt and South-South, we have everything needed to be an example of peaceful coexistence.

Sadly, our diversity has too often been manipulated for political relevance. But peace is not about politics. It is about conscience — the inner voice that tells us that no child should be displaced by war, no farmer should be denied his land, no community should be broken by division. Politics may come and go, but the need for peace endures.

The Foundation’s Commitment

The CSI Peace Foundation was established with one clear mission: to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence across Nigeria and the world. Our work is built on three key pillars.

  1. Peace Education – Raising awareness that peace begins in the conscience of individuals before it reflects in the wider society.
  2. Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue – Creating platforms for respect across religions, cultures, and traditions.
  3. Community Engagement – Working directly with grassroots communities to resolve conflicts and build trust.

To the Nigerian Youths

To the Nigerian youth: the future is bright, but it will not shine if clouded by hate or division. You are more than political pawns; you are innovators, creators, leaders, and visionaries. Not everything must be politicized. Peace, integrity, and hard work are the true foundations of a lasting legacy. The world is waiting for the light of Nigerian youth, and it is conscience-driven peace that will unlock it.

Nigeria and the World

The message of this International Day of Peace is universal: the world must rise beyond politics and personal gain. Global crises — from wars and terrorism to climate change — demand not political posturing but human conscience, compassion, and unity. Humanity must recognize that we are one family under one Creator.

In conclusion, this International Day of Peace, I call on Nigerians and the world to reflect: what guides our actions — politics, or conscience? Let our legacy not be one of division or violence, but of harmony, unity, and love.

At the CSI Peace Foundation, we will continue to inspire, to engage, and to remind every heart that peace is not a political strategy but a moral choice. And today, we choose peace.
