#NoToXenophobia

We peacefully matched to the South African high commission to express our displeasure on the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Our demands are very simple:

1. We call on the Government of South Africa to put a stop to the killings and destruction of properties of citizens from other African states, with immediate effects.

2.  We ask the Government of South Africa to openly condemn the previous and current xenophobic attacks. There should be no ambiguity as to the official stance of the South African Government on this issue.

3. All those involved in this blatant disregard to universal laws of humaneness should be brought to justice. Wanton destruction of lives and properties is a crime.

4. The victims of these hate crimes must be seen to receive justice. Justice should include compensation for loss of lives and properties.

5. The South African Government should commit their citizens to lawful engagement whenever they are aggrieved.

Furthermore, there has to be a broadened platform for a thorough review of Nigeria’s engagement with South Africa at both bilateral and multilateral levels. There are real South African concerns, as well as, genuine Nigerian and other concerns of African states which must be brought to the table. It is by discussing these concerns openly and genuinely that solutions will be found.
